Commercial businesses which use above ground or underground storage tanks containing petroleum fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil, are subject to regulation by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). The Fuel Safety Program of TSSA regulates the use of petroleum fuels by suppliers, storage facilities, transport trucks, pipelines, contractors, as well as all associated equipment and appliances.
Business owners who remove or upgrade an underground storage tank must have the soils in the area surrounding the tank tested for potential contamination. A report confirming a lack of soil contamination must be submitted to TSSA.
